I was really sad to hear Princess Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement last week. I have always really liked how she carries herself (not to mention her great fashion sense). But after listening to her video message announcing her recent health battle – one thought immediately popped into my mind… Her primary concern is her kids! I thought to myself, whether you are royalty like Princess Kate or a normal person like me – that is such a “mom thing.”
Princess Kate talked about wanting time and space for her children as she tries to explain to them what is happening and assure them that she is going to be okay. She is the one who just had an abdominal surgery where cancer was found – but she is worried about her children. I recently had a very minor health scare (that thank God, turned out to be nothing), but of course, your mind starts to race! Will my kids be okay? Will I be there for my kids when they need me? As parents, we always want to ensure our kids will be ok, no matter what.
I feel blessed that I get to play a part in helping parents protect their kids. If you have minor children, you need an estate plan and you need to name guardians for your children. As a mom, I understand that it is a difficult decision and very hard to think about. But remember: done is better than perfect.
